Young Designer Contest 2024 : Event Highlights

Highlights from the award announcement and prize ceremony of the La-Z-Boy Young Designer Contest 2024, a design competition under the theme "Comfort, Function, and Space Design Creativity: Inspired by La-Z-Boy." The event was organized by Globiz Venture Co., Ltd., the exclusive distributor of La-Z-Boy reclining sofas from the USA, in collaboration with the Thailand Interior Designers' Association (TIDA), with La-Z-Boy reclining chairs and cash prizes worth over 170,000 baht.

The award ceremony took place at the La-Z-Boy Furniture Flagship Gallery, Ladprao 138, on Saturday, October 5, 2024.

Nearly 200 applications were submitted for this competition, with 120 students passing the initial selection criteria, and eventually, 30 standout designs were showcased during the award ceremony.

Ms. Wipa Kasetsuwan, President of Globiz Venture Co., Ltd., spoke about the background and purpose of organizing this event.

The panel of five distinguished judges reviewed more than 100 submissions and narrowed them down to 30 finalists, and then to the top 8 for the final award presentation on October 5, 2024.
The judges were:
1) Ms. Sopit Sujittakul, Managing Director of CGD and a committee member of TIDA,
2) Mr. Worapong Manupipatpong, Co-Founder of Atelier 2+ and Design Director of Cane Collection by Podium,
3) Mr. Bodin Phlangkura, Founder of Context Studio,
4) Ms. Vipa Kasetsuwan, President of Globiz Venture Co., Ltd.,
5) Ms. Apisna Boonsunanon, General Manager of Globiz Venture Co., Ltd.

The 8 finalists presented their designs on stage, explaining their concepts and detailing the features they wished to highlight, which helped the judges better understand their ideas and visions.

The event also featured a special talk on "Trends of Living Space" given by Mr. Phat Chainupong, a highly skilled interior designer with over 20 years of experience, who has worked on numerous design projects across Asia and is the founder of "THAT’S ITH INTERIOR."

Ms. Korakot Kunaklangarn, President of the Thailand Interior Designers' Association (TIDA), shared his feelings about partnering with La-Z-Boy for this exciting La-Z-Boy Young Designer Contest 2024.

Certificates were awarded to all 30 finalists whose designs were selected for the event.

Mr. Thanakorn Kasetsuwan, Managing Director of La-Z-Boy Thailand, expressed his thoughts on organizing La-Z-Boy’s first-ever design contest.

Popular Vote: The most-liked design among attendees.

Second Runner-Up Prize: A La-Z-Boy fabric recliner valued at 35,500 baht, along with a 3,000 baht cash prize and a trophy.

First Runner-Up Prize: A La-Z-Boy fabric recliner valued at 35,500 baht, along with a 10,000 baht cash prize and a trophy.

Grand Prize: A La-Z-Boy half-leather recliner valued at 48,500 baht, along with a 30,000 baht cash prize and a trophy.

The event concluded with a group photo of university professors, students, distinguished guests from TIDA, and La-Z-Boy executives.
